Such hypocrisy Mr Egan!

Emma and Sophie ThompsonIn the Farmer’s Guardian this week we read that Emma Thompson and her sister Sophie are facing legal action for trespass leading from their alleged breaking of an injunction on Farmer Wensley’s field.

At the end of the article there is a quote from St Francis of Egan who tells the world how terrible this “unlawful and damaging behaviour” is and then rather pompously talks of bringing the full force of the law down on such naughtiness.

Chief executive of Cuadrilla, Francis Egan said: “We continue to support local landowners in their stand against this kind of unlawful and damaging behaviour which has already had a detrimental impact on a local farmer’s land and his business.

“This repeated wilful trespass is clearly illegal. We will not hesitate to fully assist Mr Wensley, or other landowners, in enforcing the eviction of trespassers and bringing any further contempt of the law to the attention of and for action by, the Court”

But Francis – surely you haven’t forgotten what YOUR company did 3 years ago have you? Really? Oh maybe you have. Let me remind you then.

As the Guardian reported back in 2013 :

Fracking company Cuadrilla repeatedly trespassed on to private land during geological surveys and in one garden marked a site for the detonation of explosive charges before being chased off, the Guardian can reveal.

I would like to thank The Rev Peter Doodes for bringing this to our attention. Maybe Peter’s sermon next week can be an admonition to Mr Egan to read Luke 6:41-42?

Why do you see the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye? Or how can you tell your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck of chaff that is in your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye.
